Live Music Archive folks:

I think we are all passionate about this collection. It has been growing well and lots of people are enjoying a wider range of music because of it.

I really respect the bands, tapers, uploaders, and admins that have made this possible. I also thank the donors to the Archive that are helping us pay the thousands (many) each month we spend on hardware and bandwidth.

Whenever I see the lawsuits and bitterness happening in the Internet music area, I am heartened by what we have all created. I would like this model to be shown far-and-wide as a positive example of how everyone concerned can be happy.

Unfortunately, I think some of the comments on the subject of mp3 are going over the top in all directions. This makes me feel bad, and I think everyone else.

While I am away in Egypt and Uganda launching bookmobiles (pretty great, but difficult to spend the attention to live music archive) I would like to try to quell this dispute for the moment.

If you would like to help, then please keep the discussion cordial and respectful. Or just wait a couple of weeks. Nothing will happen before the discussion is brought up again.

Rest assured, what we want to do is invite as many people into the Archive as possible. As contributers and as users.

When I am back in early November, I would like to start this conversation up again, and try to find out where there is common ground.

Lets work together to keep the music playing.

And thank you for creating a great collection!

-brewster

Er Joel, the request is to hold your thoughts until November, whereas this particular thread will be lost in the shuffle like all the other ones right now. Thoughts will be more valuable at that time. Thanks!

the option of removing a show from the archive should ONLY be up to the individual bands in question, not the taper or the uploader, unless the uploader is working in official capacity for said band.

brewster-
i would appreciate, as director, you taking a hard look at whats going on here, the move to hosting both full shows in mp3 and shn/flac will not only pollute the lossless trading pool, but introducing mp3 generations in show sources, but also alienate many tapers and uploaders that use this archive to store unaltered, lossless copies of the shows we work so hard to bring to the community, and that this can put us many steps back in what our lossless community is trying to do. i dont think you guys have taken a hard enough look at this move to mp3 fully sourced shows. i believe that maybe a 15-20 second snippet of maybe a couple songs hosted somewhere else would be okay, as it would not pollute the lossless trading pool. i press you to look at both sides really hard and make the right decision and not host fully sourced mp3 shows.
my regards,

Hi again Chris, you may want to hold that thought, given

When I am back in early November, I would like to start this conversation up again, and try to find out where there is common ground.

Thanks!

I don't need to wait till November to go on the record as being totally and vehemently opposed to mp3's! It would be ridiculous as a lossless community!
